REVIVAL review from uqmusicblog.com

The source uqmusicblog.com just posted review on Selena’s album REVIVAL.

“It’s clear within the first 10 seconds,  Revival expands, on the past couple of years that brought big changes to the life, health and career of Selena Gomez. On a mission to comender her own self, Revival explores the self-change and maturity Selena has experienced, Revival, isn’t only title, a song, but also her journey. Marking the split from the Disney empire that shaped so much of her image, she’s now signed to Interscope eschew her Mickey mouse image in pursuit of pop perfection.

“I DID REACH A POINT WHERE I WAS VERY UNCOMFORTABLE WITH THE CIRCUMSTANCES. EVERYBODY HAS THAT MOMENT IN THEIR LIFE WHERE SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE AND I NEEDED SOMETHING DIFFERENT.”
Revival opens with the ‘title tracks’ pulsating drum of something fresh and ever-changing like the opening statement “reborn in every moment”. Selena truly metamorphosis on this album, First single “Good for You” shed light on her subdued sexiness; It’s seductive woozy ambience, synth slow jam, cooing “Leave this dress a mess on the floor.” sure made way for the journey that Revival brings.

Album highlights reveal her smoky singing voice, that edges just above a whisper. Hands to Myself, a playful bewitching track produced by none other than pop god Max Martin, the track has one of the best Middle 8’s of the year.

Other standout track “Sober” surges in with an insistent percussive beat and a catchy vocal melody, “Sober” is the kind of infectious pop song that deserves the single treatment (I’m always a fan of songs that feature shouty Hey’s).

The album explores the fusion of ’80s groove and steel drums on promo single ‘Me And The Rhythm’, western-tinged ‘ Me and My girls’ (empowerment anthem) and synth-heavy ‘Kill Em With Kindness’ which reconnoitres with how she dealt with everyone while signed to the Disney.

Second single ‘ Same Old Love’  delivers the feisty breakup anthem, we all deserve. Borrowing some shouty energy from co-writer and pop hitmaker Charli XCX.

Revival is Selena Gomez’s second studio album as a soloist, after the star released three albums with her band The Scene, Selena has grown, She’s separated herself from her past, bringing her opinions out and prioritized it above anyone else’s. This album is more important for herself, as a body of work its defining herself to the world, the true Selena Gomez.  Her childhood was defined by working hard, with the major business decisions made by others, fans who have been watching her grow up have seen her gradually take the creative reins, this is Selena, this is purely her, this is her Revival.”
