Selena’s interview for mashable.com
New Selena’s interview taken at #REVIVALevent about new tour and album for mashable.com by Brian Anthony Hernandez.
“LOS ANGELES — “Confident. Free. Independent.” That’s Selena Gomez 2.0, she told Mashablein an exclusive interview at this month’s Revival Event inside Palace Theatre, where she debuted her “Same Old Love” music video with a surprise twist.
“Did you only ask for one word? Because I can keep going,” Gomez, 23, added when asked to describe herself in this Revival era. “I feel really great about myself, and the first thing you kind of have to do is admit that to yourself, and I think I have.”
With the release of her sophomore solo album Revival on Oct. 9, Gomez is leaving her romantic tribulations behind her to focus her energy on the new music, a 2016 tour (yes, you heard it here first) and her devoted “Selenators” fan base.”
“At the Revival Event on Sept. 16, she gave hundreds of fans the surprise of their lives by world premiering 90% of her “Same Old Love” video for them. The big screen rose to reveal Gomez in the flesh, who finished the remainder of the song with a live performance.
The twist? Cameras were recording the fans’ reactions, and the footage will be included in the full “Same Old Love” music video when it’s released this month.”
“”Same Old Love” is the follow-up Revival single to “Good For You,” which she also performed at intimate event, where she met and hugged every fan in attendance.
The love for her Selenators will continue when the album is released.
Which songs are dedicated to those fans? “Most of them,” she declared. “‘Survivors,’ ‘Rise,’ “Revival’ and ‘Kill ‘Em with Kindness.’ I want them to have their own interpretation. ‘Kill ‘Em with Kindness’ is such a universal message, so ultimately I want my fans to be able to feel like it’s their record. … They’ve all experienced the things I’ve experienced in my life.”
Watch the interview, above, to hear Gomez discuss Revival, her 2016 tour for the first time, details about such songs as “Me & the Rhythm” and “Revival,” as well as her mindset.
“All I want is a hamburger now,” Gomez quipped off camera after the interview, which concluded her late-night, four-hour Revival Event.
But before any hamburger was had, Gomez, like most 20-somethings would do nowadays, used Snapchat to update everyone on her status. She had joined Snapchat hours earlier.”
